How did your experiences as a student prepare you for your military career?
I was always a nerdy kid, very focused on my studies. Joining the Army's Intelligence Corps was like finding my tribe - we were all cut from the same studious cloth. I have some of my favorite teachers from Bellevue West to thank for encouraging me to be the best student I could be - Mr. and Mrs. McDermott, Senorita Bates (who instilled in me a deep love of languages), Dr. Bob my AP Calculus teacher, Mr. Shillinglaw from DECA, etc.

What advice would you give current students and/or fellow alumni who are considering a career in the military?
The military isn't for everyone. There's a reason why less than 1% of the population serves! Deeply consider if military service is something you can commit your whole being to because that is what will be asked of you. But if you do join, know that you are not set up to fail but to succeed. I always say joining the Army at 19 was the best decision I ever made because it was the catalyst for all the good that followed. Selfless military service can absolutely change your life for the better.
