Bellevue Alumni Association - Alumni Spotlight:

Erin Jenkins (O'Hanlon), Bellevue East Class of 1997

Q: What was your most memorable experience in high school?

A: My most memorable experiences in high school have to do with being part of the Bellevedettes and the musicals. This is where I met lifelong friends and had the best time!

Q: Tell us about a teacher, coach, or staff member who significantly impacted you

A: It's really hard to pick just one. Becky Wheeler, Kent Hanon, and Debbie Whitworth to name a few. All were so encouraging to me and made me believe in myself and my abilities.

Q: What activities, clubs, or sports were you involved in during high school, and how did they influence your path after graduation?

A: I was part of Choir, Take 2, Bellevedettes (colorguard and dance team), and musicals. I believe being a part of these programs taught me how to work hard to achieve my goals and not give up even when it's hard.

Q: What do you do for a living?

A: I have been a hairstylist for 25 years! I chose this career because I wanted to connect with people, listen to their stories and be allowed the creativity to create beautiful hair. In 2016 I opened Canvas Salon and Day Spa with the desire to help others achieve their future goals and make an impact on the Bellevue community.

Q: What has been your proudest achievement since leaving high school?

A: My proudest achievement is believing in myself enough to take the risk and open a business and keep it running for the last 8 years. I have found that owning your own business is not for the faint of heart and I'm proud to look back and see I have the guts and stamina to push through. I love watching my staff grow into their own confidences and am proud of the culture my salon has.

Q: Tell us about your family.

A: I have been married to Jeff Jenkins (another Bellevue East Alum) for 25 years and we have two beautiful adult children, Tyler and Alaina (both Bellevue West Alums).

Q: What advice would you give to current students in Bellevue who are trying to figure out their future paths?

A: Explore your interests. Try different classes, clubs, and sports. Keep an open mind. You'll never know what you like and don't like until you try it. It's okay if you don't have an answer to your future yet. Exploration is part of the process.
