🎤✨ From the halls of Bellevue East to the airwaves of Tennessee! Meet 1980 Bellevue East alumna Lynda Martin (Roberts) — a seasoned broadcaster who’s spent her career behind the mic and in front of the camera, hosting TV and radio shows in Northeast Tennessee.

Lynda Martin (Roberts), Bellevue East Class of 1980

Q: What was your most memorable experience in high school?

A: Being involved in activities and making friends. I loved going to the DECA competition every year in Omaha and also cheering my friends on in all the different sports.

Q: Tell us about a teacher, coach, or staff member who significantly impacted you

A: Mrs. Saunders- English. She took the time to talk to me and help nurture my love of writing.

Q: What activities, clubs, or sports were you involved in during high school, and how did they influence your path after graduation?

A: DECA, Student Council, Cheerleading, Track, Powder Puff Football, Baseball Bat Girl. I worked at Brandeis after school. All these activities, in one way or another, helped me grow and learn different skills. Many had leadership roles that helped me learn the value of being diplomatic and open-minded.

Q: What do you do for a living?

A: I am mostly retired, lol but will fill in from time to time! I produced and hosted a weekly Public Service Television show called, A Closer Look with Lynda Fontaine. I also co-hosted a popular morning radio show, (The Wake Up Crew with Steve and Lynda) in Northeast Tennessee on 98.5 WTFM and an afternoon classic rock show on Classic Hits 102.7.

Q: What has been your proudest achievement since leaving high school?

A: The work accolades and awards have been amazing and rewarding; however, I am very proud of my amazing sons and my love, Lewis Martin.

Q: Tell us about your family.

A: My husband Lewis Martin graduated from Bellevue West and spent 25 years in the military. Lewis then worked with the Department of Defense as a project manager for healthcare construction before retiring last year. My oldest son, Alex, is married to Natalie, a pharmacist, and is a Major in the United States Air Force. He pilots C-130-J's, Max is married to Kasey Rose, an advertising executive, and is an entrepreneur with many successful e-commerce businesses. Rhys is a head primitive skills instructor in Boulder, Utah, at Boulder Outdoor Survival School, (BOSS) and hosts a primitive skills YouTube Channel. My stepson Nate is married to Monica, a nurse, and is a career US Army Infantryman, they have two wonderful children, Lyla, and Logan. My stepson Chase is a department head in the Dallas area for a WinCo grocery store. 

Q: What advice would you give to current students in Bellevue who are trying to figure out their future paths?

A: Think about what it is you enjoy doing. Do that, do what you love, be passionate about it, and you will find a way to make a living doing it.

Movie: Rocky

Book: Jane Eyre. I have so many that I love, but this was the first book I read when I was young that made me really appreciate good writing.

Song: Are you kidding? I LOVE music, I was in the music business for a long time, I can't pick just one! How about any song I'm dancing to with my husband.

Food: Chocolate anything!

Bellevue Restaurants or Businesses: When I was young, I loved Godfather's Pizza and Shakey's!
