Military Years of Service: 26. I am still serving as well in the Hawaii Army National Guard.
War Service: Iraq, Kosovo

How did your experiences as a student prepare you for your military career?
JROTC prepared me for military service. As well as the education I received which allowed me to score high on the ASVAB to where I could do just about any job I wanted to.

What advice would you give current students and/or fellow alumni who are considering a career in the military?
I joined the military originally so that my college would be paid for. I was going to do 4 years active duty and then get out and go to school. Instead I switched to the Army National Guard and they also helped pay for my school plus the college money I received from my Active Duty. I strongly recommend checking into the National Guard or Reserves (Army and Air Force). Make sure you look at all the services as well.

Any other words of wisdom or stories you'd like to share?
Study hard and do well. Our military branches are looking for smart people, as we move into the new ways of war. Do your research before making a decision. If I could do it all over again, I would probably have went Air Force to be honest. And if you want to go straight as an officer, do College ROTC and sign up for a scholarship. They will also help pay for your college. I went enlisted first, and then when I finished my degree I commissioned into the military. Best choice I made.
