Bio
Wayne T. McCormack earned his BS degree in biology at Creighton University, and MS and PhD degrees in biology at Florida State University. After postdoctoral training at the University of Michigan, he joined the faculty of the department of Pathology, Immunology & Laboratory Medicine at the University of Florida College of Medicine in 1991. Dr. McCormack’s research has evolved from basic research on antibody and T cell receptor genes to preclinical research on the human autoimmune disease vitiligo to education research. He has been involved in every facet of graduate program planning, curriculum development, recruiting & admissions, evaluation, and program leadership, with twenty-five years of experience. He currently directs UF predoctoral programs in Clinical & Translational Science and the UF Clinical & Translational Science Award (CTSA) predoctoral T32 training grant, and co-directs the MD-PhD program. Dr. McCormack has held leadership positions with the Association of American Medical Colleges, Team-Based Learning Collaborative (TBLC), and CTSA Consortium, and is the immediate past-president of the International Network for the Science of Team Science (INSciTS). Dr. McCormack’s current research focuses on team science and translational science training, competency-based assessment, and peer assessment of humanism in medical education. Wayne married Margaret (Peggy) Wallace in Ann Arbor, MI in 1991. They interviewed for faculty positions together and joined the faculty of the University of Florida College of Medicine. Peggy and Wayne have two adult children. Will is an automotive engineer working for General Motors in Detroit. He married Amanda in 2024. Casey works in the biotech industry in Gainesville, FL. Ryan is her significant other.
